Biography
Dr. Md Iftekher Iqbal is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma, cataract, and complex anterior segment surgery, practicing at Bangladesh Eye Hospital (Uttara and Mirpur branches) and Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka.
He is internationally recognized as the MIGS Pioneer of Bangladesh — the first surgeon in the country to introduce TrabEx Pro, Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy (GATT), and Bent Ab Interno Goniectomy (BANG) — and the first Bangladeshi to publish MIGS cases in internationally indexed journals.
Beyond the operating room, he mentors residents and fellows, produces the MIIQ surgical teaching series, serves as invited faculty at national and international meetings including the Asia-Pacific Glaucoma Congress, and reviews for indexed journals. His work is grounded in a simple conviction: advanced surgery should be safe, reproducible, and accessible — not only in the world's best-equipped centers, but wherever patients need it.
